Pink Shirt Day πŸ’πŸ’

On Friday 21st May, we will be having a pink shirt day.

What is Pink Shirt Day?

Pink shirt day is a day we stand up against bullying. Hornby High School is an anti-bullying school. We do not tolerate bully of any type. We stand for those who can't stand up for themselves.

What is bullying?

Abuse and mistreatment of someone vulnerable by someone stronger. There are many types of bullying. Examples are verbal, social and physical bullying.

Verbal Bullying involves saying mean things. This involves:

  • name-calling.
  • making fun of someone's weight, height or how they look.
  • mean comments about someone's race or sexuality.
  • threatening them.
Social bullying involves hurting someone's relationship or reputation. This involves:
  • telling lies or stories about someone.
  • embarrassing someone in public.
  • sharing information and images that are personal.
Physical bullying involves hurting someone or damaging/ stealing their belongings. This involves:

  • hitting, kicking, punching, spitting, biting.
  • tripping, shoving or intimidating another person.
  • mean or rude hand gestures.
  • touching another person when they don't want you to.

  1. Hi Wajihah

What a great thing to be involved in, it all helps to create awareness and reminds us to be kind to one another. I always look forward to Pink Shirt day. One of the schools I visit will have lots of lunchtime activities on usually organised by students, it's a lot of fun.
Do you get dressed in pink at your school?

I enjoyed reading your post about an issue that we see all too often even at the top levels in society, from people in very senior roles in society, people who we ought to be able to see as leaders.
I am especially annoyed at the bullying that we see from political leaders. Have you thought about where the line lies between assertive leadership and bullying?
    Keep up the great work

To support my learning I ask you to comment as follows:
1. Something positive - something you like about what I have shared.
2. Thoughtful - A sentence to let us know you actually read/watched or listened to what I had to say
3. Something thoughtful - how have you connected with my learning? Give me some ideas for next time or ask me a question.
